POLICY & ISSUES

Paloma is a dedicated advocate for housing that respects and acknowledges diverse income levels. She has been very supportive of the efforts of the Broomfield Housing Alliance and of developers who include income aligned housing in their projects.

She supports Ordinance No. 2100 adopted in March of 2020 which establishes City Council’s commitment to providing income aligned housing or cash in lieu for developers who decline to reach 10% affordable for sale units or 20% rental units at 60% area median income (AMI) or less.

Paloma believes that safe and dignified housing for all people is not only a right but necessary to make Broomfield a thriving and inclusive community.

SUSTAINABILITY:
DEVELOPMENT, TRANSPORTATION, OIL & GAS, AND WASTE MANAGEMENT

Local government has a huge role to play in combatting climate change and ensuring our planet is safe and hospitable for generations to come. Because of this, Paloma sets a high bar for developers when it comes to the energy efficiency of proposed buildings, the number of EV parking spaces, and bike parking and storage. Public transportation will also play a key role in solving the climate crisis, and Paloma is supportive of efforts to increase the availability of public transportation.

In addition, Paloma has been attentive and supportive of Broomfield staff’s efforts to monitor the operations of nearby oil and gas sites such as the Livingston Pad. Studies show that excessively high emissions from extraction sites may have adverse health effects on the individuals living nearby and so keeping vigilant with respect to operations is critical. When it comes to existing residential, Paloma is proud of Broomfield’s existing program to provide low cost kits for individuals who would like to xeriscape their yards.

Furthermore, Paloma is supportive of efforts to improve our waste diversion and keeping more items out of the landfill. She is supportive of universal recycling and improving accessibility to composting.

Inclusion is a value core to Paloma’s identity and drives her decision making on council. On council, Paloma has been strongly supportive of Broomfield Pride, income aligned housing, and DDEI (development, diversity, equity, and inclusion) efforts.

This also means that Paloma is very supportive of Broomfield’s programming which provides affordable outlets to low-income people like those found at the library or recreation center. As such, Paloma supports initiatives to ensure these facilities remain vibrant places where the community can gather.

INCLUSION

INFRASTRUCTURE AND PREPARING FOR THE GENERATIONS TO COME

One of the most impactful items for the day-to-day life of a resident is our infrastructure. Paloma is committed to good governance, listens to the concerns of residents, and consistently supports Broomfield staff’s proposals to improve and repair existing infrastructure like filling in the potholes in our streets.

Because all of these items come with a price tag, Paloma also recognizes the need to keep Broomfield financially healthy. She recognizes that businesses are especially important to ensuring Broomfield remains a vibrant and economically thriving community. Paloma is very proud of Broomfield’s AA bond rating and understands our good credit is vital to being able to invest in impactful community projects.

Together, we can make a difference.
